Updated October 2026

Huntsville's free Halloween events run from Thursday, Oct. 22 through Halloween night this year. The biggest is the Halloween Party & Haunted House at John Hunt Park on Friday, Oct. 23, and recreation centers across the city host free fall festivals nearly every evening the following week. Here's the full lineup from Huntsville Parks & Recreation, plus our own community trunk-or-treat. Costumes are encouraged at all of them.

The Big One: Halloween Party & Haunted House

Friday, Oct. 23 · 6–9 p.m. · Jaycee Building at John Hunt Park

Now in its fifth year, this is Huntsville Parks & Recreation's largest Halloween event, put on with the Huntsville Police Department. It draws thousands of people every year. Plan to arrive early and expect a crowd.

Crue's Boo Bash: Community Trunk-or-Treat

Thursday, Oct. 22 · 6–8 p.m. · Crue Realty parking lot, HQ at Upland Park, 1300 Enterprise Way

We're hosting a community trunk-or-treat in our own parking lot, with decorated trunks, candy, and food trucks. It's free, and everyone's welcome. RSVP on Eventbrite so we know how much candy to bring. (Not to be confused with the city's Boo Bash at Brahan Spring the same evening. If you're ambitious, you can make it to both.)

A Few Tips for Halloween Week

  • Check the forecast. Late October in North Alabama can bring rain or a cold snap, and outdoor events may adjust.
  • Bring a flashlight for evening events and walks back to the car.
  • Plan parking for the John Hunt Park party. It's the busiest night of the week.
  • Pace yourself. With something happening almost every night from Oct. 27 to 31, pick the ones closest to home and save the rest for next year.
